I've tried to keep out of this arguement, but today I recieved a quiz and I've just come on site and I see somebodies already posting questions. I mean it's a bit much, especially as the quiz dont have to be in till June 2008

A year or so ago, there used to be a healthy respect for major quizzes and most followed an unwritten rule of not asking until the closing month.
It is however an unwritten rule and so cannot be enforced, but most users used to respond to a polite request to refrain from posting in the early days of a quiz. Heated arguements only polarize attititudes and lead to conflict and ill feeling so you can only appeal to people's better nature (most folk have one but some don't know it) and hope for the best.

This is what annoys SO many of us.
The site is now SO popular that it's NOT the friendly little question and answer thing it once was.
However, it can't be stopped and I have given up trying.
There are those on here that answer MORE just for the hell of annoying those that don't like it. It's honestly very depressing and there seems no honour left.
Like I say, I'm done.

I only realised it was the quiz concerned as I'd been making myself a working copy of the Quiz and filled in several answers as I went along and when I saw the post I recognised the Questions I know the site is about helping people but it seems some people aren't even bothering to spend any time trying to do the quiz or even researching it themselves
You cant blame the answerers. We dont know what the quiz or crossword is most of the time. I have never answered a question to try and annoy anybody else. I dont like it when the clue is not even given, but usually somebody else gives the answer anyway. We all have to tolerate what goes on here - or leave the website altogether.
Why is it that 'quizzes' are causing so much 'fury'?
Every week all of the harder questions are answered for many xword puzzles e.g the Sunday Express .... with a prize of 1,000 .....
Yet there is fury over answers being given to quizzes, eg Money Matters .... top prize 40.
So, the fury is not related to 'money'.
Some judgemental point? ....
A person hasn't tried hard enough?
Irksome because A has put effort in while B just aske
s and is answered by C?
If you are going to give the answers, then does it make any difference to wait until nearer the final entry date?
What do AB want? ..... a successful site that increases in value = increased site activity / clicks onto adverts etc.
What benefits a charity like Money Matters .... more entries (with answers) = more money for the charity ....
Chance to win 1,000 = buy the newspaper for the entry grid = more sales / income ......
The Internet has changed many business models and gives a way for mass communication .... there are other forums for 'answers' eg Yahoo Answers ....

I saw it too and did ask if they would put the quiz in the title as then maybe people who are answering would realise there are 9 months to go and those who want to look can But I still think its a case of ask if and when you want and you have to exert your will power not to look - lol
Its a great quiz by the way if you havent already sent for it

Some months age I offered this gem of advice, which was well received by many of you:
Help for new ABers.
1 Put the name of the puzzle in the heading
2 Only ask for help when your own searches are exhausted.
3 Give the full clue, number of letters and any letters you already have.
4 Try to put all your questions in one post.
5 Check back, even if you have solved it yourself, so that you can give stars or a word of thanks.
Hope this helps you get the best from the site.
I think this makes sense fo all of us, not just Greenies. And No2 needs to be stressed in the context of this thread.

Admirable advice/guidance from Aquagility, but surely people are still missing the point.
The level of prize money has nothing to do with it - the joy to some of us is in the search for the answer to a question (you search high and low for what seems ages and then you suddenly work it out without someone else's help). The galling bit is to then discover that someone else has freely given away the answer on here.
I've said it before - how will people improve their knowledge when the answer is presented to them on a plate? Exercise the grey matter and work it out for yourselves. Yes, I know I don't have to look at the answers on AB - and I don't - but that's not the point. The point is to stop giving answers away to people who simply can't be bothered to do any work for themselves - and then have the nerve to enter a quiz in their own name. If you don't know an answer, leave it blank - where is the harm in that, especially in a charity quiz?
