A very merry veggie christmas...
9 Answers
Does anyone know good alternatives to turkey for christmas dinner. I happen to be the only vegetarian in the family (though i'm a no fish or egg veggie to make it more complicated :p). I fear if I don't find something I will be lumbered with a nut roast _

I'd just eat stuffing, mashed potatoes, veggies, sweet potatoes, and pie. A little carb-heavy, but that's okay for special occasions!
Sorry, all my vegetarian main dishes aren't very Christmasy - stir fries, and other food from other cultures. You could do something like that, but in my experience the other folks tend to like the meal to be fairly traditional.
If you want something which is gong to look impressive as opposed to day-to-day vegetarian fare then I suggest something like a small pumpkin or perhaps an individual fondue. If you want to do something a bit more time consuming then you could do a veggie biryani, mushroom casserole, vegetable crown (veg in sauce in a puff pastry basket - a bit naff if done wrong), Wicken Fenn (UK) do some great veggie sausages (Sainsbury's) if you want a ready-meal option.
http://www.peta.org hi sam172 theres some brilliant recipes on this site and for xmas too.
Do Consider Indian options for XMAS. Lots of Hindu families - strict Veggies - I know celebrate on 25/Dec without the religious connotations - but they do adopt all material things like XMAS Crackers, full Decorations, lots of alcohol......AS far as food is concerned, lots of choices in Starters: Samosas is my personal favourite, Veg Spring Rolls, Lots of Mushroomy things...... As far as main is concerned, lots of choices in Rice-based or Potato-based Dishes. Also visit M&S Food Store - I a always amazed at the VEG variety they offer for the Festive Season
