Should my car battery be disconnected when I go on holiday or is Is there a suitable trickle charger to cope with the drain of modern car electronics

It depends how long your going away. The only current drain on the car will be for the immobiliser/alarm and the clock. Provided your battery is ok should'nt think you would have any problems.
Went away for 5 weeks last winter came back and my 15yr old Mondeo started first time. It was parked in the open.

If you do disconnect your battery, don't forget your radio code, otherwise I can anticipate your first question on here when you return :)

Reading your question again are you saying the car will be in a garage? If so, do not think you will have a problem unless your going away for a real long time.

I always had one of the solar chargers connected to my car never had a flat battery.

Thank you again. Unfortunately my daughter broke her ankle and needs to leave her car on the road for about six weeks and the only charger I can find needs the ignition switched on to use the lighter connection and she is unwilling to leave it in an unsafe position with the ignition on so I have disconnected the battery to play safe. The battery on my Ford went flat in the garage in just over four weeks.weeks. I think I might make a home made adapter so that the car interior light socket can be used. No further help is now needed. I am used to making adapters to use devices which don't connect to things.
