mongrel pups?

hi, a chap i work with has 2 staffy dogs? neither of them have any pedigree paperwork and i would say 1 of them has a labrador mix in it?

anyway, they have had puppies together and he is adamant he can sell them for �150 each?

is this the asking price for mongrels or have i gone mad?

Personally I'd think it was more important to make sure the pups are going to good homes than having the money, but that's just me.

150 is a bit steep for a Heinz 57 though!

Are you kidding? 'designer crossbreeds' (mongrels!) are fetching anything up to several hundred pounds, provided they are given a fancy name to make them sound like a proper breed. Even basic mongrels are being sold for �250, so �150 is in fact quite cheap!

Heard a good one today - Collie x Lhasa Apso = Collapso, a dog that you can fold up and take anywhere!

In my local paper last week Lab X German Shepherd pups advertised at �250 each, people will pay quite a substantial amount for mongrels these days it's crazy! though if you are getting your mongrel dog from a rescue centre, it is worth every penny, I have 3 GSD's and a 'Borderline Collie' (Border Collie X Fox Terrier).

Illyria, I thought by "borderline" Collie you were always referring to its mental state-as my Collie is somewhat borderline, mind-wise!
bill p, people will pay a lot of money for a Heinz, as has been said...Not enough thought goes into getting their dog, and they don't consider that rather than having each breed's "good" traits, they may well have inherited the "bad"...Besides, a good number of people who have dogs in this country shouldn't do! However, if dog ownership is on the decline, is it better that a dog have a bad owner or no owner at all? That's a genuine question with no bias-I hadn't considered it until 2 mins ago! X

I adopted a Lab/GSD a few years back. He was a walking food bin crossed with a very overprotective snarling wolf. He inherited the worse of each breed.

What gets me with these situations is no thought is given to the animal, humans can do what they like with no thought to the animals whats so ever. Talk about a nation of animal lovers the mind boggles!. Lets just hope they find good homes [some chance] poor puppies.

i have a staffie lab cross who i paid �100 for. I'd be happy to pay this again, she is an excellent dog. Also, because the girl I bought her from had been feeding her for eight weeks, and taken her for her preliminary vet visits, it didn't seem too much for her to ask for a contribution towards this.

Believe me leelapops the term 'borderline' could indeed refer to his mental state as well, Border Collie's are renowned for being hyper, busy busy dogs and then to cross with a terrier, OH BOY!!! he tries to herd the horses on the farm, but if a squirrel breaks cover he doesn't know what to do first, my hubby and I have to spell words out in his presence, especially the 'sq' word, he stands and barks up at the trees, so I suppose you could call him 'barking' Borderline, lol!

Awww Illyria he sounds special in many ways, much like Jack! As soon s he spots something that's interested him, he is just fixated, "Collie stare" and everything! I think him and Jack would have a lot in common if they met!
