Whats the difference between a Pshychology PhD and a doctorate

Thanks for looking,

I know someone who has been offered a PhD position in Pshycology and now also a doctorate. She has to decide which one to do but not quite sure on which one is:

A higher qualification
and what the differences are in general.

We have researched this but any info at all will be helpful.

I thought they were the same?
