Sadly, we face atrocities such as these every day. Innocent people are assaulted for no reason and many become further victimised afterwards due to threats of retaliation and retribution.
I once arrived at a hotel in the wee hours of the morning to find the clerk lying on the floor, covered in blood. He had been beaten to a pulp because the room they had been holding for a guest was given away after six PM. The man who booked it arrived at 10PM. He had not guaranteed his arrival, so to express his displeasure, he knocked the teeth out of the poor boy.
The police did capture the man. This happened in the states and as I recall, the assailant went to prison for many years as he already had a history of assault.
