Raisins - BEWARE

Posted on another forum, a 3 year old whippet just died from eating raisins.

I know it has been mentioned on here before but just thought a reminder was in order, especially as seeing it has actually happened to someone brings it home even more.

what a terrible shame, and with christmas coming up, mince pies and christmas cake around, it is good to give owners a reminder.

I wonder how many owners dont know and leave grapes lying around on low coffee tables?

I mentioned this to my vet and he said that a dog wouldn't need to eat many raisins to suffer from problems.

Suppose that means that I don't have to share my chocolate covered raisins. :-)

wolf63 Did you know that chocolate is also a big no no for dogs? It contains something which is poisonous to them.

Yes raisens are poisonous to dogs, and chocolate is too. Some people also feed their dogs tuna in brine - the tuna is fine, but brine is very bad for dogs because of the salt content in it.

Dogs are okay with most foods - pasta, potatoes, veg... just avoid cooking them in salt.
