The running is going really well at the moment. Just did a 9 mile run this morning (even with a cracked rib - cycling accident a few weeks ago!). Have entered the Helsby half marathon in January so that should make sure I keep training over Christmas. Hoping to do it in just under 2 hours. My last half marathon was a complete disaster as I had a broken pelvis when I ran it. I've never been so fit in my life before but I've never had as many injuries too! It must be worth it ... isn't it?
How are you getting on with the running?

Oh my gosh - running a half marathon in under 2 hours? And running a half marathon with a broken pelvis?? You're nuts!!
I'm really pleased with myself - ran 1.6 miles the other day in 19.5 mins which I know is really slow, but I'm running a mile now in 11.5 mins which is a bit faster than when I started.
Mainly impressed that I am running for nearly 20 mins - when I started I could only do 3.5!
And because I'm running it slowly I'm not getting stupidly out of breath which means I'm enjoying it too!

You should aim to enter some races in the spring. Try a 5k first (3.1 miles) you should easily be up to that distance by then. Races are really good fun - as long as you don't try to win! I find that I am competitive against myself always trying to beat previous times and don't worry about what anyone else is doing. It will also keep you really focussed on your training and less likely to give up. Once you've done 1 race you'll be looking for the next one to enter.
11.5 min miles is really good going - I remember when I ran my first 10k race I was so over the moon that I'd run the whole distance without stopping (in about 64 mins). I'm now doing 10ks in less than 50 minutes so it just shows if you stick at it how much you can improve.
I probably shouldn't really run with injuries but cos I love running so much I just keep going!
Glad you found the link useful - I use it all the time. Have you noticed that you can also use it to calulate how many calories you burn?
Keep up the good work - you need to make sure you are running a minimum of 3 times a week.

birdwoman - I'll definitely look into doing some 5K's early next year - no I'm not really looking to use running for weight loss - if anything I'm trying to increase my calories a bit so I don't lose too much weight, but I'll keep an eye on it.

This malarkey is totally addictive! Not sure i'm giving my heart a good work out as my heart rate isn't going up massively, but enjoying it all the same, so thanks very much for your words of wisdom and encouragement!!
