How do I work out what monthly limit for broadband would be acceptable? I haven't a clue how much I download. In fact does 'downloading' mean 'saving' or does it mean 'visiting/viewing' websites? I watch dozens and dozens of YouTube music videos for most of my time online as well as using GoogleEarth a lot besides many other websites. Would that be 2Gb or 200Gb? I've really no idea! Could anyone assist please? Many thanks.

Im very leery of broadband limits. I find there are so many offers available that are economical and dont have those restrictions that I believe limits to be rather old-hat. However, even with unlimited downloading, there are fair use provisions to prevent individuals from abusing the right.

Watching Youtube involves downloading. Saving is what you do once youve downloaded somethingtypically.

May I suggest that you look at the following site and see whether there are any deals that might appeal to you more than a restricted agreement:

You start "downloading" as soon as your browser reaches any website homepage. I would hazard a guess at 3Gb a month in your case.
Every bit of data that comes through your phone line (or cable service), to your PC, counts as 'downloading'. That includes viewing websites, playing online games, receiving e-mails, using messenger services (such as MSN), making internet phone calls, downloading software and using P2P software (such as Limewire).

BT have a handy calculator to help you calculate your likely broadband usage. (NB: Note that the calculator asks you to input information based upon your weekly usage but the total usage figure produced is on a 'per month' basis):

If your with Virgin ( formerly NTL/Telewest) then you do not have a download limit and will not be charged for excessive downloads.

However, if your found to be downloading excessive amounts during 'peak' times your download speed will be 'throttled' back.

I'm constantly downloading stuff and haven't had a problem yet.

My friend how was with tiscali downloaded in excess of 500Mb everyday and he never had anything said to him.

To be honest, I wouldn't worry about it.
