What does SE stand for?

The SE after the name of a car, what does it stand for?
my guess is standard edition, but im not 100%.

I used to have a grey and black Ford Corsair executive SE, it had really deep black leather upholstery and a sports steeting wheel and the dash was polished wood, it was gorgeous. ( I had that in 1978, it was about 8 years old then i think)

Special equipment, but really it's just blurb to make the car seem good, same as GTI,GTO,GT, etc.

Bloke I knew had a Cortina 1.6, he turned the 1.6 upside down, his girlfriend was to frightened to go in it, she thought it would be to fast being a 9.1 engine.
