Another true story, seeing as a few have appeared.
This IS true because it happened to me back in the 70's when a shy naive young man of about 18 or so.
It was Valentines day, a very crucial thing to remember, and I got on the tube to go home. On the train was a girl, not a model, in fact nothing really special at all, but there was something about her that I found mesmerising and incredibly attractive. As luck would have it, we both managed to get seats and sat opposite each other, which was handy for surreptitious looks at her..
My journey went nearly to the end of the line (of course I didn't know where she'd get off) and as the stations past there were fewer and fewer people on the carriage. Throughout the journey, I kept thinking I must say something before she disappeared from my life forever, but being shy and inexperienced, I didn't know what.
We both seemed to be going all the way (I wished!) and after what was the last stop for me before I got off, with only us two left in the carriage. I thought I really really should do something, but still I felt tongue tied and useless. Then fate took a hand because as she uncrossed her legs, she accidentally kicked me, at which she looked straight at me and apologised.
I looked straight back, and, bearing in mind it was Valentines day, I said "don't worry....do you know, if i'd have known I would see someone like you on the train tonight, I'd have brought a box of chocolates and a bunch of flowers"
Quick as a flash she looked me straight in the eye, smiled, and said "Do you know, if I'd have known someone like you would be on the train, I'd have f**k**g walked!"
I think I'd have got off at the next stop even if it wasn't mine, and walking home I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. As someone said, you couldn't make it up.
