Is there any point to air mail envelopes.
Ive been sending letters and cards to friends in South Africa for a while now and have always bought air mail envelopes. A friend told me you dont really need them. Is this true?

You dont have to use them, but as you are being charged by weight they make sense.
Hi there - no you do not need Air mail envelopes, as long as you add an air mail sticker you will be fine, and if sending parcels, use a customs declaration and write the words "Small Packet" on the package

Thank you both. grasscarp, not sure what you mean that it makes sense as Im being charged by weight.
i think he/she assumes that you have to weigh the envelope when you send it, as an ordinary envelope is heavier than a airmail one you would have to pay more for the postage
but thats probably under a certan limit that a normal envelope comes under
