why has the close friend of the mccann family waited six months to tell the police she is sure she saw madeleine being carried off? or have i missed something in the news?

She has only just talked about to the media - she reported it to the Portugese police at the time. The story says:

It took 22 days before Portuguese police agreed to release Ms Tanner's description of the man she claims she saw, and then only after pressure from the McCanns following discussions at diplomatic levels.

Her sighting has been reported widely in the press so someone was leeking like a sieve.

Saw the child being carried off by a stranger but decided not to raise the alarm at the time? Doesn't sound too likely.

twenty20- from what i've read, she said she saw a child being carried off. If I saw someone carrying a child covered in a blanket I wouldn't assume it was a child of a friend of mine, especially if I presumed said child was asleep in her bedroom.

as B00 says the initial report was that she saw a child being carried by a man. She assumed that it was a father and child out late.

did anyone else see on the news that Gerry had apprently stated that they had been worried about the security at the complex? Is it a true quote as surely even a parent who thought little of leaving 3 young children unattended like they did would certainly not leave them when they had suspicions like that?

They must have known it was un-wise to leave the children alone,otherwise why did they do regular checks
