However, it annoys me royally how much the press have tiptoed around the neglect issue. I know if it had been me, because I am a single mum and live on a council estate the story would have been told so differently. Boozy mum, blah, blah.
However, little Maddie has disappeared and the only question left to ask is, are the twins safe in their care? If the answer to that is yes, then no more should be said. If prison or taking them to court is about punishment then they have been punished in the wort way possible for any parent. If the court action is about rehabilitation, I would think any judge would presume that it was a lesson already learned.
I think their other kids deserve a break from this. Its an awful thing to happen but they dont need to grow up in the shadow of their missing sister.

I agree Goodsoul that the parents have been through enough already (a lot of it self-inflicted by their continuing press courtship, now through their press spokesman).
I also agree that, for the sake of the twins, a low profile should be kept on this whole matter now.
However, when something similar happens to a parent, say in your own circumstances, that Social Services will intervene without the blink of an eyelid and noone will feel sorry for them.

if any of us had left our children every night to have dinner we would end up being convicted of neglect and our children would be on the Child protection register. Don't forget how young these children are. I can't understand how they were so confident that the children would not wake up while they were out.
They were in an unfamiliar country and they left their three tiny, vulnerable children on their own while they went off socializing.

I have to agree, Toby. Irrespective of the fact that the children were said to've been looked in on at regular intervals, any one of those young children could've woken up the minute their parents'd gone out of the room. Can you imagine how scary it would've been, had one woken up for a drink of water, to find no one there? The McCanns've expressed their regret, but what all of them did was wrong. Madeleine at least, had also been at the creche during the daytime. Just seems to me that the children were "in the way" of their parents enjoying their holiday.
My daughter is 8 and i have our bedroom doors open wide every night so I can listen out for her. I couldn't believe that the twins were put in local creche after Madeline went missing. If my daughter had been 'abducted' it would be the last thing I would have done especially in a foreign country- I would have my other two 'superglued' to me day and night - were they not worried about the safety of the twins - what if the 'abductor' struck again etc. Obviously ,they were not -I am missing something here!
