I would very much doubt it. The bank statement shows you withdrew money, not that you spent it in the shop.

No.... DOH!

It shows the date, company name and the amount i spent in the shop!!
Ah I see. I thought you'd just withdrew some money from a cashpoint. In that case, it's certainly worth a chance.
A trader is not required by law to give you a receipt in the first place so it would be unfair to say that you had to produce one for the refund or exchange faulty goods.

However, it is not unreasonable for the shop to want some proof of purchase, so a cheque stub, bank statement, credit card slip etc., should be sufficient.

Thanks kempie.
Dont mean this to sound funny or rude but why dont you just sew it back on? A button falling off doesn't exactly ruin the garment. buttons fall off all the time whioch is why they always provide a spare one with any garment with buttons on. Send em over here and I'll mend em for you!
From my understanding you need a receipt for a refund if you change your mind, if you don't have one the shop is not obliged to give you your money or a credit note (but they do have to display their refund policy at the point of sale).

However, in your case, the goods are faulty. This is then different. You should be able to exchange them without a receipt, possibly get your money back.
In terms of the bank statement, you could give it a try, but I suspec they won't accept it. That amount of money on that day could have been for anything. In the shops eyes, you could have stolen the trousers and bought something else for the same amount, then when you return the trousers for a cash refund you are making money out of them. I know that is negative, but is likely what they could think.

All of the above is dependent on the type of shop, large multi store chain or small one off shop. All depends really.
Good Luck...
if the goods are faulty then you are entitled to a refund or an exchange, your bank statement should be proof enough, ive done this before without a problem. and think about it, if one button falls off more may come off , this could be classed as poor workmanship, good luck and keep us posted!
