At the risk of sounding stupid, how can you have a metric foot?! Isn't that like an "imperial centimetre". I don't get it.

squarebear, tyrepill's choice of words was rather misleading. I almost commented on it at the time.

FOOT has another meaning as a subdivision of a line of poetry. Metric here is not referring to the metric system, but to the 'measure' of the line of poetry as in long and short syllables
