combi boiler

I do not understand the programming instructions on my Vaillant combi boiler.!!! Please Help.
I have an option to put the circulating pump on a timed program - but have no idea when or why this should operate- so dont know when to set it for. At the moment the little symbol shows it as on all the time -is this wasting electricity?
Same with the hot water - i thought i would just have hot water when I want it, when I turn the tap on. There is no storage tank, so when should I set it for -certain times?
What does 'set back' mean.
How and when does the Energy saving ECO bit kick in -should I set it high or low? what does it do?
I have been woken by the radiator in my room 'clicking 'as if heating is starting up - at 4 am! I have set heating for 7 am! Is this the so called 'frost protection'? Didnt think it was below 5 degrees in my house (November 17th). Cant find any further details about frost protection in literature.
THANKYOU

the timer is for the heating. timers usually have 3 settings, constant, off and auto (timed)
have you just had the boiler installed? your installer should have shown you how to set the timer or have set if for you as part of the handover process.
it should show you how to set the programmer in your instruction book. if you haven't got a book ring vailant and ask them for a copy.
im not sure about the eco setting to be honest as i haven't serviced/worked on many condensing boilers yet.
