Anyone know any tips of getting a leg up on an acting career?

I live in Cornwall, still young and desperate to take up acting as a career but opportunities are very scarce here and I know that no casting director will look twice at anyone with hardly any experience.
Does anyone have any advice on progressing into this field and where to find local opportunities and experience? Any suggestions are very much appreciated!

If you don�t already get involved in amateur dramatics, then perhaps look at this as a way of gaining experience. And getting some feedback. It would be worth knowing if other people think you�re any good before you start trying to make a career out of it. Look at local noticeboards and in the local paper to track down groups.
