Hello . can anyone suggest a way of peeling off the very stuck down price and code number labels that refuse to come off in one piece ? I have been pickling one off a present and it 's left an unsightly sticky layer on the box.

If it's on something that will not absorb alcohol, just spray it lightly with hairspray... It might take a time or two to get it all off...

Thankyou Clanad , I don't have hair spray but would nail polish remover do the same , it won't leave the clear plastic with a white dull mark will it ? :-) xxx
I have heard, though not tried it myself, that you spray polish on it.

Thankyou spudqueen , and In A Pickle , I have some spray polish , that sounds my safer option I guess , as I don't want to damage the box . :-) xx
I'm sure how clean is your house uses mayo for these type of jobs
Like you one day I bought a new purse and the sticky label refused to come off. You can use baby oil or what I can get here in a chemist Boots have it is Liquid Paraffin Oil - it is about 99pence. I could not believe my eyes, sticky label just melted away.

When you use other products they take the colour away. Good luck. Mind you that was handy for the leather purse - I dont know about boxes that might stain.
forgot to mention it would work on most things, leather, steel, you know what I mean

Thankyou all for your replies , I tried most of your ideas and the label came off eventually , just left with a bit of a tacky patch now but I don't see that going . :-) xxx
Give this a try:

It worked for me. Just work it in to the sticky label in a circular motion - leave for five minutes then dry off with a dry clean cloth.

If it does go wrong - sorry. Worth a try.
Maybe even hide the mess with a big bow if it's a gift box.
