Got mine back today and am around the halfway mark..Recognise a name amongst the prize winners think is an aber and I'm sure there must be others, if so well done and congrats. Thought the quiz seemed a long time in coming back, didn't realise John had had some problems, so here's wishing you well. I always enjoy these quizzes and looking forward to the next, thanks.....c

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.candled - not sad at all - just fed up with people giving away answers on here that some people at least have the integrity to want to find on their own. It is extremely frustrating when you spend ages looking for an answer and then find it - only to see the next day someone has asked the question on here and been given the answer. No one will ever improve their knowledge if they are simply given the answer. And I repeat, my quiz entries have blank spaces if I do not know the answer.
I didnt have a go at you unless you changed your name!
and you are now going back over what you and others have said before and not to the fact that I gave and did not ask for answers to the Macmillan quiz. and I feel no guilt at getting a 5 voucher especially when you know the quiz cost 7 to enter plus 2 stamps to get it and 2 stamps to get it back!

candled - I admit I asked for help on one question many many months ago, but as I pointed out at the time, I DID NOT ENTER that quiz. I have NEVER asked for help since and will NEVER ask for help in the future.
As for "holier than thou" - my conscience is clear. My quiz answers come from my knowledge and my searching and where I don't know an answer I leave a space. I wonder how many others can say the same?

candled - have a look around - there is more to this site than Quizzes and Puzzles. As many have said before, using the internet to look for answers, unfortunately often leads to answers being given away on this site - which I know can be ignored, but that's the frustrating bit........as I'm sure you can understand.
Boysinblue, surely telling someone to be honest is having a go at them...its like calling them a liar. So much for integrity.
maybe you should start a quiz where everyone signs up not to get any help such as asking a friend.
Personally I see this site as another reference source and any info obtained needs checking against a second place.
Merry Christmas

As the compiler of the Macmillan Summer Quiz I think I can put forward my personal view of using the AB site for answers.
As far as I am concerned the idea of the quiz is to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, which I'm sure you will all agree is a very worthwhile cause.
I try to include questions which cannot be Googled but, of course, cannot prevent questions being asked and answers being given on this site; and I have no intention of stopping it. Most contributors to AB are very friendly and will help where possible. It's just a club to which you may or may not wish to belong. If you join you must expect to play by the rules. If rules aren't broken then there should be no discussion!
I am quite sure that the people at the head of our 'leader board' each quiz research most of the questions themselves. I can usually work out who has asked which question and I can tell from the 'wrong' answers that some do confer with each other but I have no problem with that. That is why we have a few prizes for the 'also rans'.
I hope that ABers will continue to support the quizzes for what they are; fund-raisers. and I hope to do battle in the New Year.

I totally agree that gaining as much money as possible for any charity is a primary focus.
However, I still feel many people are missing the point and this applies more to non-charity quizzes. It is very frustrating when you toil long and hard for an answer and eventually find it, only to discover that someone who is obviously lazy has asked the question on here and been freely given the answer.
If you can't find an answer under your own endeavour, where is the harm/disgrace in leaving it blank? Anyone who just asks for the answer on here will continue to do so and therefore never improve their knowledge.
The organiser of GBQ asked that no questions should be answered on here, but that was ignored. It is clear that those who "help" people on here pay no attention to the other side of the argument (which can be equally valid).

sodemall10 - thanks for the support. Much appreciated.
All I am asking for is for people on here to stop ruining quizzes by giving away the answers to those who are too lazy to look for themselves.
Look back a couple of weeks and see that someone asked a question on the IRHH charity quiz. Two points - it's only just been published and there's more than six months before the deadline - so please, don't anyone tell me that is reasonable.
