I think it's Coleman's mustard - I have vague memories of this being a popular saying that Coleman made his money from what was left on the side of the plate.

I agree with the Colman's mustard answer as I used to tell my boys that same story. They didn't make their money from people using lots of mustard but from them wasting it.
