How do I install exterior Christmas lights on my house?

I've never had exterior Christmas lights before but in my new home I would like a simple string of white led lights along the top of the house (or maybe just around the porch if I can't get someone to go up a ladder for me!!). My question is, I have no external power source so do I need to drill a hole in my wooden window frames to access a power socket?

Also, how easy are the lights to hang? I'm not known for my DIY prowess!!
