Was I in the wrong?
9 Answers
I went into work yesterday feeling under the weather and got progressively worse as my shift went on. I approached my supervisor saying I was feeling very ill and needed to go home only to be told I couldn't and that I shouldn't have gone in to work feeling ill.
I explained that I wasn't asking to leave but was informing them that I was going to leave as they couldn't keep me there against my will. After much insisting on my behalf and expressing my disgust at the attitude of my direct supervisor the duty manager granted permission for me to leave.
Was I wrong and should I expect to be disciplined on my return?

No I'm not in the armed forces, I just work in the leisure industry.
A friend from work called this morning to inform me that my employers are gathering statements from other staff present at the time of the incident with a view to disciplining me on my return. I have been so angered by my supervisors behaviour I have prepared a letter of complaint.
I have not been in trouble before but firmly believe in standing up for my rights and can be quite outspoken which I think is working against me on this occasion.
Incidently I still haven't returned to work and am still waiting to see my GP.

I hate when the boss does that. I used to work in retail and tjey always asked the nature of your illness. That is illegal her in U.S. We finally started being gross when they asked and gave very vile, descriptive answers. They stopped asking.
I have to ask permission to leave if i feel ill and have been told more than once to stay. After I puked on the classroom floor, the principal reluctantly let me leave.
Ted, you were not wrong, and along with your complaint letter, you should gather your own incident statements.
Hope you are feeling better. and good luck!
