prisoner of mother england is poms.
I thought it was Prisoner Of Her Majesty

POhM from the letters on thier clothing.
lots of speculative backronyms for pom, nothing proven. The term is neutral unless preceded by 'whingeing', which it usually is - denoting the tendency of poms to go and live in Australia, while constantly moaning about how much better Wigan is.

the whinging pom comes from gibralta when they were living and digging in the tunnels of the rock the aussie's gave the brit's the nick name because we complained about the living conditions inside the rock (almost 24,000 service men lived inside the 52km of tunnels in ww2)
English imigrants who constantly complained about Australian conditions were referred to as
" Haemorrhoids ".
" They come out, they won't go back, and they are a pain in the ar$e ".
