Not sure about it being sacred, but 7 seems to be tied in with it quite a lot.
3 seems to be the most sacred number in Christianity-being the number of the trinity. As karstdejong said 7 is mentioned in the Bible quite a lot (it's also the number of heavens in Islam culture), as indeed was 40, 12 of course has some significance too.
Yep, 3's 7's and 10's. but theres lots more. For some of the more numerological bits of the bible check out revelations and ezekiel.
According to the bible 7 is the perfect number, so im not gonna argue with that.
