signing away your home to your children

If an elderly person has signed their home over to their children, what would be the position if the elderly person had to go into a home, would the family be made to pay the fees as they now own the house

It isnt me, but a relation who I am a bit worried about as I don't think she realised what she was doing soon after she became widowed, she now has no right on her house such as being able to take equity out which she could have done if she had kept it,.

The council can and do claw back the monies when there is evidence that a former home owner has 'wasted the assets' or 'deprivation of assets' as they say.

This quote may be relevant:
"It is against the law to transfer ownership of an asset to another person specifically to avoid paying your care home fees. The law states that if you've transferred an asset to another person within the six months before you get a place in a care home, your local council can make you pay your care home fees".

Thanks for your answers.it would not have been my relatives idea, but she was just doing what was suggested to her, I dont know if she had ant independant advice.
