Please can someone help?

I have recently purchased a Wharfedale LCD tv with built in freeview, this is connected to a dvd recorder (av1 in). But when I try and record a freeview channel all it records is analogue channels i.e 1-5. Before I purchased this tv I was able to record freeview from my big old fashioned tv which was connected to a set top box and dvd recorder without any problems and without having to fiddle around I simply put the freeview channel on to what ever programme I wanted to watch and hit record then switched to tv and continued to watch analogue programmes.
I have spent weeks trying to sort this and I am getting really frustrated as I know it should work but I cannot see what I am doing wrong.
Can someone please help in really simple language.

many thanks

Hi Bridget,
Does your DVD recorder have it's own Freeview (digital) receiver or do you rely on the set top box. If so then you may want to read these pages as to how to connect your equipment.

OK, very very simple. Freeview is on your TV, not your recorder. To record ANY freeview, your TV must be on, which sort of defeats the object.

Probably best to do what I did and invest in a separate box with two tuners, otherwise come to switch off, you will only be limited to one channel.
