Help! Name of a tv series late 1980's early 1990's

Hello I have been trying to remember the name of a tv series that aired somewhere between later 1980's and early 1990's
All I can remember is that it used to be on late in the evening - and was mostly about a family - and the relationships and affairs that they had so it could be quite steam and a few choice words in it. I seem to remember some one owning a garage/car dealership

Sorry its not much to go on - but any help most appreciated.

thanks so much pauln90 it was families - it has been bugging me for over 3 weeks I just couldnt think of the name of the series and thought it may have been called sisters & brothers or similar as I remember half siblings getting involved with each other.
