Hi, all I had a steroid injection yesterday morning into the elbow, then a couple of hours later I began getting pain, the pain got worse as the day and night went on. I rang GP this morning as the pain was realy bad could not even hold a tooth brush or bend my arm, the GP reckons I have got an infection in the elbow, what my question is how or where would I have got the infection from.
A cortisone or steroid injection will give you some pain for a while .
I had one years ago in the elbow and it played me up for about a day before I felt any relief .It was sore and swollen but I was warned this would happen .After that cleared the elbow was fine .
I had steroid injections into my ribcage a few months ago and the doctor warned me that I would get an increase in pain for a few days as the needle irritates the nerves in the area,it settles down quite quickly. I doubt it is infection as the needles and stuff are all sterile.
Thanks all, I went to the GP this morning, she has put me on a strong antibiotic with penicillin combined, my arm is twice the size today, she said the injection caused an abcess at the site of the puncture wound, apparently an abcess can occure at any site where an injection is given but only 1 in a million are affected, shame I am not the 1 in a million that wins the Lotto, so hopefully it will ease and get better soon.
