telegraph pole

Openreach have erected a pole on the pavement about 12ft from my front window, right in the middle of my view! I objected to this about May time. I have sent several letters and have had telephone conversations with Openreach, as I said it would have been common courtesy to just knock on the door and tell me what they were doing. The original pole was just across the road in the bottom corner of a garden and the new owner did not want it there ( 5o years it had been there ) so it was just moved straight across the lane in front of my bay window. I had a visit from an openreach chap, who said it was an "engineering Solution" to move it across the road - that's not what I said!! Anyway, I had a telephone call yesterday to tell me the pole was ok where is was and they do not have to consult with anybody if they are going on the highway, but surely it is common courtesy to inform someone if it affects you in someway. Has anybody else come across this?

You have the right to have any pole removed so long as they can find a suitable site to move it to but unfortunatly you have to pay.

i would sugest that you formally complain to your local council as the longer this goes on the less chance you will have of getting them to move it without it costing yourself.

If this fails i would try getting a legal letter telling them that you intend to take them to court as the pole has reduced the value of your house.

The normal action for such companys is to wait to see how much of a stink you cause before doing anything and of course drag it out as long as possible so they can claim it has been in that possition for some time without problem making you look likr the problem not the pole.
