Watch not working

My friend finds that when she wears a watch it either gains time or loses it or stops completely. Does anyone have an answer to why this happens and any solutions of how to overcome this problem.

I have the same problem (but only with mechanical watches) and generally speaking, the more expensive the watch, the worse it performs - no idea why :-(

A solution would be to buy a digital watch.

Is she bringing it in contact with a magnetic field that can harm a watch and alter the time, but once moved away the time restores.
Is it running out of power?
