whats a good red wine?

I was wondering if anyone knew a good red wine to try. I usually like white wines and get a cheap White Zinfandale but am looking for a good red wine to buy in the states. Nothing expensive over 15 to 20 dollars and that is not a bold and over powering zip to it rather the taste be a bit light any suggestions? It would be nice to know one for drinking and then one to have at dinner or one simply for both! :)

Pinot Noir is my favourite grape and grows well in the Nappa Valley region. Buy one at the top end of your budget. Uncork it leave it to breathe then invite me round to help you drink it
