preparing plasterboard for tiling

How should I prepare the new plasterboard on a stud wall to receive tiles/cement ? Mainly a dry area in a kitchen - two/ three rows of tiles running down to worktops. Would PVA do the trick ?

Usually a 50/50 mix of PVA(Unibond) and water applied the night before tiling ought to do the trick.
