Minimum memory required on my PC

What is the minimum ideal level of memory etc I should be looking for, for a new PC that will be used purely for games and interenet????

I ave no idea about computers but need to make sure it has enough memory/adequate graphics etc to play the best games etc......

At least 1Gb, but I would go for 2Gb, big hard drive - 160GB or bigger, at least a dual core CPU, Nvidia 8800 based graphics card (or 2 in SLI configuration) if you can afford it.
And a quality motherboard and powerful PSU.

You are looking to pay between �100 and �200 for a quality motherboard, but if you want top gaming performance then this is what you need.

You can also spend between �50 and �100 for a good PSU.

The trouble is that if you want good performance for current games, and a PC that will cope with upcoming games, then you have to pay for it, there is no real cheap option, obviously you would shop around for the best prices.

Thanks mattie, thats prety much everything i needed to know....i only use a laptop at the momey which is no good for games at all, so want to get PC so that i can play games on it etc etc.....thanks for your advice

Hi there,

I recently put together a system similar to the one Mattie described with a few parts budgetised and it came to a grand total of around 450 quid. It's an absolute flyer and should run games well into next year without having to upgrade again (this price did not include monitor).

Please don't go to PC World or a high street store as they will rip you off to no end with cheap overpriced components, but the parts online and either read up on system building - it really isn't that hard - or get someone in the know to knock it together for you. Happy gaming!
