Another laminate floor question

Regarding the gap left around the outer edge.  I've seen cork strips for sale to fit this gap.  Is it neceesary to buy and fit this?  Or is it fine to leave the gap empty, before covering with new skirting?

I'll be fitting a cheap glueless laminate.

Most leave the gap and cover it with either the pre-removed mop board or a 1/4 round against the mop board.  Whichever one uses, it should not be fitted to tightly down onto the laminate.  The whole purpose is to allow room for expansion due to temperature changes.

If you are fitting new skirting (or have removed the old one which will then be replaced) it should cover the entire gap, but as Clanad says, don't let it touch the floor.

You need to fill the gap which should be 10mm. It needs to be compressable, as cork is, to allow for expansion. If you leave it unfilled, unweighted sections ie, those without furniture etc on can seperate and are a git to get back in.
