I suspect that they sang many songs - can you give us a snippet of the one you had in mind? I preferred the cavalry stuff like "Boots and Saddles" and "Gary Owen" (or did Russ Conway invent those?). How did it go?

Nope - I was right, pardner - "Boots and Saddles" was a cavalry bugle call:
