As you know my parents were 16 when they got my pregnant with me. My dad was at public school and my mum worked in a gallery. Dad quit school took 3 jobs and my mum started training to be a midwife when I was about 5, they both went to night school was when I was really little but we really poor until I was about 10. I remember my dad chopping up furniture to burn in the winter when I was really young but I don't recall us ever going without although according to them we definitely did.

I think they were incredibly young to be starting a family but it depends on the individual. There could be some very young parents who could make good of their situation, I don't think my parents were the norm and its not fair to assume that all teen pregnancies are doomed. I live on a council estate and there are plenty of 30 year old mums to be who should just have their kids taken off them.

so do you think theyw ere included in the figures ?
the question wasnt about the rights and wrongs of teenage pregnancies just about how they are recorded.

and who said teen pregnancies are doomed?
not i.
as the figures are compiled by government bodies then i doubt theyd include 19 year olds or anyone that isnt what most people would class as a typical 'teenage mum'

I reckon the figures are more likely based on under 17s tbh rather than all teenagers.

my reasoniung s that recently when you hear reports about different things .
like say assaults on disabled folk.
they say.
the government dont have exact figures on attacks as theyre not recorded liek that.

so im wondering as a 16 year old and married , in scotland , i believe its still 17 in england unless you pop up to gretna.

are you still classed the same by the government on merely your age?
or do they get more specific ?
i.e. status married single living at home with parents etc ?
or are they basing it merely on the age ?
I think they are only because in the sure start programs they include teen mums and dads in their special classes, groups and meetings up to the age of 19.
It's 16 in England too, but if you are under 18 you may require consent from your parents.
I think you may find that there are different sets of records from where these statistics are taken from. The first'll be from all single teenage mothers (which'd include those who're 19), and then there'll be others - i.e. those who're 16 or below, those who're still in education, those who're claiming benefits of some sort, etc.
Question Author
in scottyland you can just go do it goody.
no consent required.

Do you mean Romanies, leg?
Oooooohhhh, yeah you're right Pip. Leg and his Scottishness confuses me so much that I didn't even think it could be anything else.

LOL Goodie ~ sometimes I have to read the posts phonetically in order to process the thought ;o)
