these teen mothers ?
10 Answers
whilst trying to google some figures etc on teen pregnancies after a discussion on another thread i found a link to this withhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4572219.stm the bbc news page.
now it kinda shocked me and also made me wonder what has become of society that children are no longer having a youth?
its straight to high school and then some are popping out kids and then sitting back on benefits.
does anyone know any more about these girls?
have they continued their education or gone on to get jobs?
or are they bleeding the welfare state?
god forbid have they had anymore kids ?

I always say that "there but for the grace..." because although I was married when I had my first child, I was still a teenager myself, and things could've been so much different if I'd come from a Council estate and had no money. I have a friend in London who had FIVE children by the time she was 21. Things were very bleak for her, but at 30, she's now a nurse, has a working partner & they support the family by themselves.
I'm sure lots of them are good mothers but it stinks that I had to stop at 2 kids because that's all we could afford but they carry on breeding knowing they will get more money and a bigger house. It also beats me how young people at the age of 17 get council flats cos they don't get on with their parents. There was a young lass on Jeremy Kyle who had her own house and her boyfriend had his own house. Yippee, 2 houses, 2 lots of benefits. It makes me so angry.

Just thought of something else !!
I'd like to congratulate the young lad who was Britains youngest dad who became a dad of twins at 13. He has done marvellously, he and his wife work, they have a mortgage, have had more kids and they seem a lovely family. The children are lovely and very well mannered. They are probably the exception though cos a lot of them don't want to work cos they are better off on benefits.
Are we right to blame them though ? The government have a lot to answer for.
That's it now, I'm going shopping cos I'm stressed.

Oh my god....... I don't understand how anyone can be better off on benefits, its a flipping job itself making your week last on the money you get from the government. as for getting a bigger house, I know girl who is not on benefits has 5 children and is in a 2 bedroomed council house. They wont move her for another 2 years apparently. If they would just show these kids what they are missing out on by having children so early, I feel a bit of a plonker for having my first at 22.
If my 12 year old came home and told me she was pregnant (or 14 or 16 year old) I would march them straight down to the nearest Marie Stopes clinic. If that didnt persuade them I would find every single teenage mum in my area and make them see what a balls up of their life it had made. The mothers responsibility entirely. If I ever have a daughter she will be getting the implant in her early teens, no way would I allow this.

I think there are many reasons why some people don't work, preferring to have children and live off benefits instead. One is the rubbish education (or none at all), which means that kids are leaving school scarcely able to read or write. Another is that parents aren't teaching their children to have some self respect. Even though my kids are still young, they know that they won't be able to be idle when they leave scool, & must carve out careers for themselves in order to live properly.
I also agree with goodsoulette's first sentence. I work alongside people who're in receipt of benefits, and the honest ones truly have very little money at all. Those who swan around in "designer" gear and seem to have more than working folk, are either up to their ears in debt, or getting stuff by "other means" because there's no way they'd have enough money to buy it otherwise.
