What's the difference between a Journalist and a Reporter?

Anyone who writes or edits for a newspaper is a journalist, but not all of them are reporters. A reporter is a specific type of journalist, i.e. they write news items. They have to be there on the spot, reporting on a news incident. But there are other types of journalist, e.g. columnists, opinion writers, arts & literary critics, agony aunts, food critics, editors, etc.

Journalist sounds, to me, more professional & reporter less classy. Must be the "hollywoodising" of reporters, ie; Lois Lane & the like.
