roofbox keys.
I have recently been given a roofbox, but it has no key.
The person who gave it to me said they got replacements from halfords and that I should just turn up with the box and ask them for a key with the same number on as the one on the lock .
is this right?
it is already open, but obviously I can't lock it.
can i just go with the key number or do i need to take the box with me? (not attached it yet)
do i need any sort of proof that it is my vehicle?
thanks

Imagine you found that someone else had done that to obtain a key for your roofbox and stolen the contents! I hope you would need to do a lot more than quote the number, or even turn up with the roofbox (same applies - you might have stolen the roofbox). I can't see how proving ownership of the car would help either.
