My bank Natwest has charged me 12 for going over my visa credit card limit even though I went over when they added interest to my account at the end of the month. I didnt know how much they would take off in interest, surely its not fair of them to charge me for going slightly over because of them?

Do they give out any literature to explain interest charges? if they do then it wouldn't be their fault.
you don't handle your finances very well do you! It was only last month you went over your overdraft too!! PS I am only joking please don't take that the wrong way unfortunately banks can and will charge whatever they like and as you seem to do this often it is unlikely they will refund you

Yes well they used to be more lenient on me before but everytime they fine me its because their interest is making me go over their limit. B@stards. I hate Natwest. As soon as my loan is paid back im leaving them. 11 months to go!
so is it a loan you have with them as well as your bank account and credit card? Cos you can easily change your bank account and maybe get a new credit card and transfer the balance but probably can't get out of the loan though
Question Author
Yes-all 3 of them with Natwest.
I have a couple of visa credit cards with them, plus a loan and current account which I have had for nearly 10 years.
They tell you on your statement how much interest will be charged next month.
I wonder whether you are cutting things a bit fine by operating so close to your credit limit. There's always a risk that a charge may tip you over the limit. Have you considered asking for the credit limit to be increased or trying to cut back on your spending or repay a bit more
as cheekychops says, you are advised in your statement how much and when interest will be debited. it is up to you to ensure there are adequate funds for the interest to be taken, if not you will incur charges. harsh, but true.
Question Author
My statement does NOT advise me of how much will be taken out and on what date. This is not a current account statement but visa. Nowhere does it tell me how much is coming out.
only thick people dont realise interest is being added to a credit card. if you know the rate you can work it out...
my cc tells me how much interested will be added next month if you pay the minimum paymnt
Question Author
Bednobs: Let me explain it to you nice and slow so that even you can understand it, got it?
I KNOW that I will be charged interest at the end of the month but I dont know how much it will be because I dont know what the cut off date is from which they deduct interest. I can explain it to you again but I can't erase your patronising attitude, sadly.
why dont you know the date? I dont know whats so special about a natwest card, but ALL of my credit cards tell me when it has to be paid by and how much interest they are charging me.

Surely anyone with a brain can work out (or even just ask NATWEST) approximately when the interest will be added and add on a few days incase they have the date wrong? Dosent the bill come monthly?
It is not their interest charge, it's your interest charge!
LOL filthiestfis I like your answer, bednobs has pi$$ed me off too recently
Read your statement carefully.

Since 2002, all credit card companies are obliged to state "Estimated Interest for next month"

Also, under te Direct Debit scheme, all companies who take a direct debit out of your account must give you 10days written notice of the amount.

Therefore one of three things are happening:

1) You are not getting your post
2) You are not reading your post properly
3) NatWest are not following the correct procedure (and I have 2 current accounts and a mortgage with them so can confirm that they do follow the procedures)

I suspect it is point 2.
