We're going to Ayers Rock in Australia. What is the closest airport or will we have to pretty much drive quite a distance anyways?

My brother flew out Sunday to do a tour of Oz. He is flying in/out of Alice Springs to see Ayers Rock.

Ayers Rock is about 250 miles SW of Alice.

Uluru (as Ayers Rock is now generally known, out of respect for aboriginal culture) is usually accessed via Alice Springs although it's possible to fly into Connellan airport and travel from there:

the local airport doesn't take jumbos but light planes land there; I've done it myself. You can also go on sightseeing flights from there
