I was about to suggest a DS and some games, so instead try some of these sites for gift ideas. Don't know your budget so here goes...
Firebox.

Toys R Us for Transformers construction stuff Lego,Magnetix, Meccano, RC cars or trucks, Playmobil etc Dr Who.

Books from Amazon. How to Avoid a Wombats Bum kids book is really funny, Guinness book of records, Ripley's Belive it or not - really cool 3Dcover.

Some brillient ideas. thank you both - i have ordered those books, an i pod, a video watch and some other stuff from the firebox site inc a usb turntable so he can have all my old records and put them on his pc - i think that will appeal, then he can download them to his i-pod (and to mine) and i have seen a junior rally driving day experience too, which i will discuss with hubbie before booking. Christmas is now sorted, just the dreaded food shop to do, thanks for your help

Both good ideas but his room was done earlier on in the year and he is already a great saver, I agree its a wonderful thing to teach them. Infact I am very lucky to have a child who doesn't want everything he sees and is quite happy with what he has, so much so that he didn't know what he wanted for christmas which was why i was struggling for ideas, he has got a lot tho it wasn't all given to him brand new so he is not as spoilt as he might sound, grandparents and aunties and uncles will all ive him cash which he will save and not spend which is why i as his mum want to buy him physical presents that he can open on the day, it wouldn't be the same not to have anything. Thanks everyone for your suggestion and hoipe you and yours all have fab christmas too
