Body Armour needed for work as a Doorman

Hi, can anyone advise where my friend can buy a reasonably priced bullet / knife proof body armour from as he has recently started working as a doorman.
Weve looked online and find theyre really expensive. I know its a small price to pay if its going to help save his life, but would like to find cheaper if we can.
Any help or suggestions are all welcome please.

I am sure that in certain areas of the country doormen have to be registered with the local authority or police.

If this is the case in your friend's area maybe he can approach them for some advise.
