So another so called educated African is set to become the next South African President.

This is a man that has been involved in corruption, stood trial for rape. had sex with an Aids infected woman, and claimed he was safe because he had a shower afterwards.

Would the people of South Africa be worse off being ruled by the likes of this man, or those so called white suppressors?

Yes he has been involved with corruption - as opposed to the UK's politicians who are whiter than white.

He had sex with an Aids infected woman - imho amazingly stupid - but bear in mind that 1 in 5 adults are infected in South Africa. It is a completely different type of society over there. Incidentally, he did not claim he was safe but rather had a shower to try to reduce the chances of infection.

Will the South African's be better off? Don't know as I know very little of South African politics or who the opposition leaders are.

I lived in south Africa for a number of years. I love the country and its people both black and white. There are lots of different tribes in south Africa. Much the same as in most African countries. they have tribal rivalries not religious, much the same as Zimbabwe. The whites when I lived there were generally of English descent or Dutch descent (Afrikaaners). In my experience it is was Afrikaaners who were the most racist.. In my honest opinion, I think that eventually South Africa will go the same way as Zimbabwe. I hope I am wrong. Nelson Mandela is a wonderful man, incorruptable and honourable. Sadly, they broke the mould after he was born. Unfortunately it has now become too violent a place to live in and the people who can get out are leaving in droves. Apartheid was evil. but the apartheid in Zimbabwe has been replaced by an even greater tyranny. What use is having a vote, if you have not got food in your belly? I fear South Africa will suffer the same fate. Again, I hope I am wrong.

why does a leader have to be either a saviour or a tyrant? Most leaders are nothing of the sort, including most British leaders. Mbeki was neither. He was an economist, and economically the country is doing very well. But the people protest that the money is all going into the pockets of those already rich. Since that is what happens in (for instance) the UK and USA, you could say he is a classic western-style leader. Zuma for all I know will turn out to be the same.
