Make Me A Muslim

I caught the end of this show last night (part 2 on tonight) and I wondered after Channel 4 did a show entitled "What Muslims Want" after the failure to follow it up with what Hindus want etc. is there another show to follow entitled make me a Christian, Hindu and so on? The point I'm trying to make is, is the amount of attention Islam gets in the media warranted and is it reflective of our society as a whole?

Sticks and stones Logic my shoulders are broad enough to take that slur, I know what you mean it's this "sensitivity" that stifles debate.
The trouble I had with what I saw of this show was one of the participants who wanted to marry a muslim man but his parents would'nt accept her as she was a Kuffa (horrible word). This was offered up without comment or condemnation (from anyone) she was desparately trying to fit in with his parents wishes when in reality the answer lay with her "man" who should've just turned around and said to his parents my life, my wife, get over it! Cultural differences don't come into it unless by definition "they" wish to espouse a culture of racism, isololationism and intolerance.
The other show I mentioned was guilty of similar journalistic cowardice.
I just wish that Hindus, Sikhs, Jews and Christians (yes remember us) would get a say every now and again.

There's nothing racist about it J.T.P, I agree I saw that show by Louis Theroux they're no kind of Christian I recognise or agree with.
If you read my other posts on other subjects my record on this site, and in real life beg to differ from the racist angle.
Sikhs and hindus probably make up as many people in Britain as the Muslims but we never hear about them and their problems, or don't they have any?

I can totally see your point 123Ev, but then couldn't that opinion be adopted in every aspect of life? i.e. Royal Mail use red post boxes, why not green or yellow or blue? Sometimes things are just because they are.

There are huge debates about Islam in the Western media currently and I think the documentary aimed to tackle opnions of those who are not open minded enough to see that one deluded terrorist bomber's perception of the world is not the same as that of the majority of Muslims.

Personally, I don't think it is right of the Muslim boyfriend's (Ash?) parents to deny accepting his girlfriend before even enetrtaining the idea to meet her, purely because everyone should be valued and respected individually regardless of race or religion, but the way I see it is it is their luck out. Ash is the only one who can decide whether he chooses to live for himself or his parents.

Ash should be a man and stand up for the woman he claims to love. If the boot were on the other foot the cries would be merciless (and rightly so) I can speak with some authority and experience on that part of the question because I was engaged to a Chinese girl, I was always just a white a man (a gualau, pronounced gwahloo). Their opinions are'nt (entirely) representative of their community as evidenced by my current girl friend (maybe more one day).
The idea that Sharia law would solve the problems in our society is one I'd take huge issue with, this notion of one prescriptive solution for societal problems is absurd.
We don't need Sharia here, we don't need anymore laws full stop!
We just need the Police to apply the laws we have.
But we still don't hear from other faiths and their perspective.
Why?

When I talk about journalistic cowardice what I mean is that they offered no contradiction.
EG. On What Muslims Want a muslim man defended the burkha etc. by saying that if you owned (his words not mine) beautiful jewel you would'nt put it on show, the interviewer never even dared to say that perhaps that jewel has right to shine for itself oe even (God forbid) muslim men should have to take responsibility for their own actions.
The point is why don't we hear from the Hindus and the Buddhists?
Don't they count?

Of course they count, but how much demand is there for programmes about how a Hindu dresses? I don't see people writing in to POV every week desperate to see what a Buddhist wears. Why should they have to justify a documntary about Muslims?

Last night ITV showed a doc about a man who weiged 48, should they have followed that with one abut somebody suffered from annorexia just to make it fair?
