Please can someone help us, we have an 18month Yorkie bitch, she will not stop eating and playing with her poo, we clear it up and make no mention of it thinking that she may be trying to hide it from us, but to no avail, now she has started going to the cats tray and playing with her poo, we are at wits end.

Hi itsgary, not sure what to suggest...Are you present whenever she poos? If so, you could try sprinkling pepper on her poo before she goes to eat it, and on the cat's poo too. This should put her off! I have also heard that a wee bit of pineapple added to your dog's dinner makes their poo taste bad (I don't know who researched that!)
There are other ideas, and I am sure someone will post more comprehensively for you. Good luck :) A cuddle for your dog too.

Yes I have heard that adding a pineapple ring and some juice to the dogs dinner usually works, but more for the regular offenders who continually eat it. Best answer is to remove the offending poo immediately, before the dogs gets a chance to play with it.
My puppy has started to do it occasionally if he should manage to hide his poo in the bushes before I remove it, and I know his diet isnt deficient as he has a complete diet the same as the other dogs.

It is usually best (if you can) to ignore the behaviour otherwise the dog may start doing it more to get your attention. Try and distract her when you see her heading in the direction of the cat litter tray, BEFORE she gets to it start playing with a toy or call her over to you for a treat. The same thing when she has done some poo, instantly praise her and call her away from it with a toy or treat.
Also it is a good idea to make sure that both dog and cat/s are wormed regularly to prevent any health implications.
Some dogs do just simply grow out of it.
