Harry Nillson had the original hit in the 70s, Mariah Carey also had a hit with the song in the 90s.

It was originally written by Pete Ham & Tom Evans and recorded by their group Badfinger in 1970. It was mainly a Pete Ham song written about his wife.Tragically both Ham & Evans committed suicide by hanging themselves , Ham in 1975 and Evans in 1983.

Badfinger is correct from the 1970 album No dice, it is such a tragic story, they didn't really do that well otherwise, Harry Nilsson done the goose-bump version in 1971 on the album Nilsson Schmilsson
