I went to a friends house a few years back and their xmas was spent drinking as many "tinnies" as possible, I think they had pot noodles for xmas dinner (at about 7pm)
Hi BB,
We have our presents around the tree and when everybody is up on Christmas morning, we all gather round with bucks fizz and open our pressies.
Then I may cook breakfast for those who want it, I give this a miss. Then I start cooking, drinking, eating the nibbles.
More people come, more drinking, more eating, few games, a little nap. And before you know it, it is all over!!
We have TREE PRESENTS!! Have done ever since I can remember! My Aunt and Uncle always came up for New year (that was more our Christmas) where we would open lots more presents and then in the evening we would open the presents from the tree.
This tradition stopped when my Dad died and my Mum re-married new beginings and what have you, so my sister and I carried it on and now there are about as many presents on the tree as there are under it!!!
Now my sister lives in Oz and my Step-Dad usually works Crimbo day so they come round Boxing day, it's just the 4 of us on the actual day.
I'm cruel as we don't open our presents until after Christmas dinner which is how we always did it but it does make the day last longer and the anticipation builds, I do let them open one or two over the morning (I'm not that cruel!) :o)
We have always had tree presents too. We have them after tea on christmas day.
We would always get a present and a satsuma put on the bottom of our beds as we slept ready for the morning. It was usually a little toy or something new to wear on christmas day. I think the idea was to stop us from waking the whole house up too early..... never worked lol
Another tradition is for the adults to open one present at midnight.
we exchange a gift after midnight on Christmas Eve when we get back from the Midnight mass at the Church, which is 50 yards away!!! Then when get up (last year it was 6.30am cos of grandson) we wait until the streets are aired and then have a cooked breakfast, put the Turkey in and start arguing about 11am about who will wash up and tidy the paper off the floor. We eat at 1.30 - 2pm, then watch the Queen, all the while eating and drinking and most years someone is trying to assemble a race track or a building toy, lol , with little success.
