trouble breathing is a cause for concern.in elderly cats. When your cat has trouble breathing, he may not be able to get enough oxygen to his tissues.

Cause`s
could be something press on lung or press on the airway
Infections such as pneumonia)
Obstructions that occlude the airway
Trauma
Abnormal fluid accumulat
cat flu
I would get advice from a vet ! Good luck
Gotta join jaspercarrot (whatever happened to him?) in advising a vet visit.

Our old thing did similar last year and we though she'd be going on her last visit to the vet. It turned out she had a toothache and it was more comfortable for her to have her mouth slightly open. A couple of extractions and she is at this very moment acting like a kitten, chasing her own shadow. She has just had her 18th birthday.
Our cat does this quite often and it can sometimes seem quite serious.
We took her to the vet and they took X-rays of her lungs and did many tests but what the finally suggested is that she has developed asthma.
Apparently millions of owners are giving their cats asthma without realising it by using air freshners, smoking around them, kitchen and bathroom cleaners: these all contribute to it apparently.

Any update on how she's doing ?
